Ashdown Forest will forever be famous for the association with Winnie the Pooh. There is alot more to it than that, though...The Ashdown Forest was a hunting forest, it is not named for trees, but for its historic landuse. Sitting on High Weald sandstone, with its acid soil it has a heathland land cover, with a good amount of gorse, as well as pockets of woodland of increasing maturity. It is popular for walking and the rich colours in each scene are memorable.
