In Europe there are two species of caper, which are difficult to tell apart (both are Capparis sp.). These produce the flower buds which, when pickled, are used as flavouring in food.
They are species that occur mostly in the Mediterranean. While there is no evidence to suggest a link with the name of the Galilean settlement known as Capernaum, this photo was taken in a field at the edge of the main centre and historical site!
